The Catholic Church never ceases to amaze me.

Declaring that “life must always be protected”, a senior Vatican cleric has defended the Catholic Church’s decision to excommunicate the mother and doctors of a nine-year-old rape victim who had a life-saving abortion in Brazil.
Cardinal Giovanni Batista Re, who heads the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, told reporters that although the girl fell pregnant after apparently being abused by her stepfather, her twins had, “the right to live, and could not be eliminated”.
In an interview with the Italian newspaper, La Stampa, the cardinal added: “It is a sad case but the real problem is that the twins conceived were two innocent persons. Life must always be protected.”
Life must always be protected? You realise all three would have died had this not taken place.
The Catholic Church has defended a rapist and paedophile here. They’ve punished people who saved a little girl’s life. They tell their followers not to use condoms, causing the spread of HIV/AIDS. Who says morality comes from religion?
Just saw this posted on an atheist Facebook group. This is from a 9th grader’s biology workbook.
The lady who posted it says: “It is a relatively new charter school in the Dallas area. My daughter went to the principal and said I was not pleased. The principal read the book and had a look of surprise on her face and said that the school would not be using that publisher next year. I just sent an email to the corporate offices asking to speak with them about this. Crazy. Good thing is my kids just laugh and roll their eyes at how stupid it is…”
This is from part of a documentary on the Westboro Baptist Church. I can’t help but think of so many religious people I’ve met that remind me of this backwards cult and how they think and speak.
I love Louis Theroux. I remember watching this documentary when it first aired on BBC. It’s probably my favourite documentary, actually. I was just becoming an atheist at the time and it shocked me to the core. To think that all these people believe what they believe purely because of one man, Fred Phelps. Just because he chose to take the bible literally, word-for-word (and a bit more) and indoctrinate his children into the same beliefs.
I know Christians will read this and say, “Oh, but they’re not real Christians.” I know. I know you’re different and you don’t protest funerals. But just look at the reason why they believe what they believe - indoctrination. It’s so easy to bring a child into this world and feed them the information you want them to grow up with. That’s likely to be what happened to (most of) you.
Here’s a link I posted a couple of weeks ago, an article written by Nate Phelps, who grew up in the Westboro Baptist Church, but was lucky enough to not be drawn in by it all.
The One - Australia’s Most Gifted Psychic
This show focused on finding the best ‘psychic’ in Australia. This YouTube user points out how it actually showed that psychics are fraud and nothing but ordinary people with hunches.
Everyone’s read those forwarded emails, shared Facebook updates or re-re-reblogged Tumblr posts that, as a student, Einstein debunked his atheist professor. Maybe you’ve even seen the one about the marine knocking out his atheist professor when the professor asked for God to hurt him in order to prove his non-existence. It’s all bullshit. Don’t believe these stories. Anyway, Einstein was agnostic.
Here’s a list of the different versions of the boastful atheist professor tales.
Theists don’t have any evidence to back up their beliefs so they resort to reposting a little story that somebody told them on the interwebz.
EDIT: And as I post this, another person shares a long version of this story on Facebook…
If we came from apes, why are there still apes?
If Americans came from Europeans, why are there still Europeans?
